It’s time guys! Thanks to the awesome work of Jutsuki Sen, we now have the 3rd patch of Altered Fable!

In honor of the return of America’s Greatest Counter-terrorist (TM), it’s time for Muv-Luv Altered Fable’s long-overdue third partial patch! After many months and over 12,000 lines of text later, it’s finally ready to go.
This patch allows you to play through the entire game, provided you’re going to play one of the following routes:
– Sumika
– Meiya
– Kashiwagi
This new patch has typeset signs integrated into the game, but I’ve left some of the less important ones/ones that require no knowledge of Japanese untranslated for now. Also, there will be some glitchy images with artifacts; you’ll have to bear with me until I sort out why the artifacting is happening.
Also, some of the menu images I’ve typeset are kind of a rush job; I’ll get around to making less janky ones at a later date.
There are some known crash bugs; check the FAQ for details.
Also included are a volleyball guide and a general route guide. I’d recommend playing without the route guide first, though.
As always, let me know if you find missing(untranslated) lines. I’m sure there are plenty of them, given the nature of the beach arc.

I managed to bypass the problem, not sure exactly what i did to make it work though. I redownloaded the vn then fastforward the raw version to just after the crashing part saved than repatched everything. I am now able to read past that part normally.
OH! and I used a different source when I redownloaded the vn.
I had the same problem but reinstalling didn’t work.

This is a save file to the part following the purchase of the phone straps (Leaving after the purchase). By using this save file you will be able to bypass the crash.

Thanks for the effort put in to translate this. Sad to say however I’m running Win 8.1 and I am forced to save every few minutes since the game is prone to random crashes for me. No clue what causes it but I’ve only just made it to the new teacher being introduced during class (first 10 minutes or so) and already had 5 crashes.
I’ve made it to the introduction of the airsoft idea and It’s crashing 100% of the time and can’t get past that scene. Shame but it looks like i’ll have to wait for a different patch.
Might be worth it for the windows 8 and 8.1 crowd to download a virtual machine and have it run windows XP. Thats what I did and so far no problems with any VN.
Odd. I’m running Win8.1 x64, yet I haven’t had a single crash, and I’ve been playing for more than 5 or so hours. Did you updated the game correctly and have your pc running in Japanese locale?
Yes and Yes, to be fair running in a Virtual Machine is something I started doing with the Muv Luv series with the original Muv Luv. Which was widely know to be crash happy in Windows 8. So figuring the rUPG engine just hated windows 8 I just ran all the Muv Luv games since then in a VM. It’s worked great so far. And its not like I need a ton of computer power to run VMed windows XP and a Visual Novel. Im doing it just fine on a cheap Dual Core AMD A6.
Yes to both locale setting and being sure the game updated right. Running in a virtual XP Machine as worked perfectly… until takeru shops during the birthday arc and then there is a 100% crash even in the VM, so I’m going to have to test taking that save and putting it in my 8.1 version game and see if I can bypass it. If not then yeah I really am stuck now if not even this can stop it happening to me.
I’m having the same problem on widows 8.1 but the game works fine if its in safe mode.
I had this problem too but after research I deducted that the problem isn’t Windows 8 but with the game you have downloaded. The file is corrupted. You need to to download another torrent ( or buy the game).

Nope. Can you be more specific about when it crashes? If it’s during the gift-shopping bit, I think you’ve just got a bad torrent. Kept happening to me too.
Tried a different torrent and the game does the same thing. It seems to crash as soon as the alarm in the lab goes off every time. The TE demo works fine and everything else but the rugp stops working during the main story. I have Alternative running just fine on windows 8.1 I do not understand why AF keeps crashing.

Use something like JDownloader to get all the files quicker. Should resolve any crashing issues you guys are having.
I followed all of the instructions for installation and I still can’t get it to work, every time the game starts its in Japanese and when I click the Rgup it gives me an error and crashes
its some japanese text and afhook.rpo
When will the next update be available? Or rather when will the whole transltion be finished??? I can`t wait to play all the other routes~!!! 🙂
I 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th this! Haven’t started reading this yet, because I HATE having to wait for something good when I’ve seen part of it. It’s better for my psyche to wait until it’s fully translated ^_^
I have already installed the game but am have trouble putting the english patch in. Can someone help me?
My biggest problem is that i’m having trouble finding where the installation directory is. Is the directory the thing called “BD rom drive” or something else?

But the best part about finishing alternative is that awful feeling that it leaves you with. It`s comparable to watching games of thrones for the first time lol.
I just finished alternative two days ago and was feeling sort’ve down from the ending that’s all.

at least there is one saving grace meiya’s and the rest squad 207 deaths, which is that they all died during that same mission.
imagine if the author had them die one at a time on different missions and had the survivors reflect on their squad-mates’ deaths until they all died except takeru. I think if this happened it would have been much more tragic.
I installed the game and patched (official and then translation) it as well. Then when I was ingame sometimes text just didn’t show up. After I went to backlog and back the text was there but when I prograssed to another line text wasn’ showing up again.
Does anyone know what the problem is?
I have my OS set to Jap locale, using win7. Tried it with normal or safe mode but issue is still there.
OK I was able to resolve my problem but another one came.
This time I’m crashing always during skiing part (with the timer and things). So I cant get past that part anyone know a solution?
How did you solve it?
If you play at a window size above 100% it doesn’t like to appear like every other line. Switching back to 100% (as opposed to 125 or 150) fixed it for me.
I’ve run into a problem where I quit the game, and after shutting off the Virtual Machine, (I use XP on Windows 8.1) and coming back to it later, its all in Japanese again. Would reapplying the steps to translate the game fix the problem without disrupting my saves? (I really don’t want to click 3,000 times to come back to the part I’m at… I’ve already done that twice.)
Nevermind, I just recopied over Plugins and afhook.pkg to the MLAF install directory and its in English again. I guess shutting off the Virtual Machine just screwed with the files, because they were all in the right spot before…

Hey guys. I got a save point after the drinking scene crash but I have a strange problem. For some reason text stopepd displaying msot of the time when I click to continue. Voice plays and when I go to the backlog its all there fine. But when I click there is nothing on screen and when I hover over options they dissapear. ANyone got any idea how to fix this? I tried downlaoding the game from 2 diffrent places and reinstalling it. Same result.

Uh yes, they plan to, at least the rest of the main VN. I can’t speak to whether they plan to do anything with the strategy game.

Also, anyone know an absolute correct AF Game download so it won’t crash at certain parts? Can’t figure out how to uninstall it thru the game itself, so I just delete & reinstall, but that seems to cause issues…
Crashes for me right when Sumika runs off, leaving Kasumi, right after the memory of the cookoff. I doubt anyone reads this anymore though…

How do you get the Kashiwagi route?
If you’re going to skip the volley ball choose all the choices that relate to her before you get to that part and you should be good, it worked for me.
I’ve copied the plugins and the afhook thing to my installed directory but it’s still won’t translated. Already read the readme, but still can’t get it translated. Help anyone?

Given Altered Fable is being translated as part of the photon flowers fandisk collection (I believe) kickstarter goal, It’s pretty safe to assume that it probably wont be updated here, given altproj members are working on the official muv luv project.
That said, that version almost certainly will be out by the end of next year, which is at least something you watch for as opposed to waiting for the fan group to do it on their own time when they can.
Is it dropped now?
